Huadu New Zealand Education Centre (HNZEC) - Christchurch

Planning

Location:Huadu New Zealand Education Centre (HNZEC) - Christchurch

Land Size:4,190 sqm

Architects:Warren and Mohoney

Project Status:Planning

With Resource Consent this property will see a new lease of life. The plan is to upgrade the existing tower and library with an addition of a new office building constructed to draw people through from Durham Street to the Avon River.

Sitting next door to the recently refurbished Christchurch Town Hall the two facilities shared their Architectural heritage of Sir Miles Warren, one of the foundering partners of Warren and Mahoney.

The existing 7 story Tower is now restrengthened and fully refurbished and is occupied by various Huadu entities. The tower will largely be dedicated to International Education but due to Covid, these plans have been postponed until that market is reactivated.

In addition to the tower building, Huadu owns the Old Law Library, which sits on the banks of the Avon River and has commanding and intimate views over Victoria Square. We are in the process of strengthening and restoring this building for interim use as office accommodation until we determine our longer-term plans for the overall site.
